The local dog groomer had been really busy for the last couple of weeks as Longridge’s dog show was to take place in the park. This started off as a fun dog show for local residents but has grown over the years and people are coming from miles around with their dogs. It’s a small animal charity that puts the show on every year. There are classes for cutest pup, prettiest bitch, most handsome dog, best senior, waggiest tail and best rescue. The show always starts off with a class for young handlers which is anyone under the age of 7 to encourage young people about animals. Rosettes and prizes for the dogs are presented to first, second and third place. The winner from each category gets entered into the last event for the overall winner to be chosen who wins a trophy filled with special treats and a dog bed.
The show is open to all breeds not just pedigrees. Stalls selling homemade dog treats have started to attend the shows and also stalls selling anything to do with the dog from collars and leads to beds and clothing. A fancy dress class has started to be a favourite with the children and as long as the dogs are comfy and happy with what they have on we encouraged the fun. Hog Roast Longridge was asked to come along to serve food. It has been requested for BBQ pulled pork sandwiches with apple sauce to be served to anyone who wanted them.
We arrived with our Hogmaster Hog Roast machine which cooks a large pig on a spit slowly over a few hours. Catering staff accompanied the chef and a cooking station and prep areas were set up to make sure everything was done as freshly as possible. Floured rolls were set aside ready to be filled with hot juicy BBQ pulled pork. As the chef carved the meat catering staff pulled the meat apart and then served it on rolls with Apple sauce. Pork was brimming out of the sandwiches and the aroma was making everyone feel hungry. There was plenty to go round so there was no chance anyone would miss out. Hog Roast Longridge stayed till the very end of the show and made sure all rubbish was removed from the premises.
