As we all know by now, British summer can be a bit hit or miss. Lukewarm temperatures one minute with sprinklings of rain here and there and jumper weather the next is pretty standard for most of the UK. But not last weekend. Oh no.
Last weekend most of the country baked in 30-odd degree heat. And even here in Leyland things were, as Arrow would say, ‘’feelin’ hot hot hot’’.
But that didn’t stop Hog Roast Leyland from loading up our catering van and setting off to help the lovely Yvonne celebrate her birthday on Saturday.
The party was held in the client’s garden at 5pm and we’d been hired to serve our BBQ menu to the 65 guests. With it being such an important occasion, our catering managers, Chris and Kayleigh were determined not to let the heat stop them. Even as the temperatures topped 34 degrees (yes, our team was melting) they didn’t give in.
When I tell you we cooked up a storm, I mean it. Chris and Kayleigh rustled up handmade beef burger patties using the finest local beef, butcher-style sausages, Thai chicken kebabs and marinated spareribs. And that was just for the meat enthusiasts!
For the veggies and vegans, we prepared grilled vegetable and optional halloumi kebabs served with cool and zesty tzatziki dip, flatbreads and sweet chilli sauce. Light, colourful and tasty, it was the perfect meal for the hot weather.
On the side, we had fried onions, cheese, Greek salad, pasta salad bursting with fresh veg and a blend of sweet potato and classic fries. We also set out a basket of rolls, wraps and flatbreads and an entire army of condiments and sauces for the guests to help themselves to.
The final treat for the guests came in the form of an ice cream van. With temperatures climbing throughout the day, you can bet they were glad to have a freezing treat to cool them down. Even Hog Roast Leyland’s team was treated to an ice cream thanks to our lovely hosts – and we relished every morsel!
The weather might have been roasting, but Hog Roast Leyland didn’t let that stop us from making Yvonne’s birthday as memorable as we could and we’re thrilled that her celebrations were a massive success.
